EDMONTON, A.B. — FC Edmonton defender Abdoulaye Diakité and goalkeeper Nathan Ingham have been rewarded for strong defensive months of June with North American Soccer League (NASL) Team of the Week accolades on Friday, July 7.
Abdoulaye Diakité
The Senegalese centre-back helped anchor the FC Edmonton defence for all six matches in June, playing all 540 minutes for the Eddies in that span. Across all six matches, Diakité won 14/16 tackles, 25/32 duels, made 25 clearances and 13 interceptions. The 24-year-old also kept a goal out of the Eddies net in the club’s 4-2 win over the New York Cosmos on June 7, making a goal-line clearance to keep the Eddies ahead. Diakité adds the accolade to three NASL Team of the Week selections so far this season on top of last year’s NASL Young Player of the Year award.
Nathan Ingham
Goalkeeper Nathan Ingham got his first NASL start back on June 7 against the Cosmos and hasn’t looked back. The Keswick, Ont. product earned his first win in his first start before notching his first NASL Team of the Week nomination days later for his performance. Despite failing to secure another win in the past four matches, Ingham has been stellar in between the pipes for the Eddies, tying the league-lead for saves in June and averaging 4.8 saves per game. A terrific triple save against the Deltas on June 24 has the 24-year-old up for NASL Play of the Month.
