Canada Soccer released its list for the 2017 Canada Soccer Player Awards this week and former FC Edmonton midfielder and academy graduate Shamit Shome has been nominated for Canadian U-20 Player of the Year.
Joining the FC Edmonton Academy in 2015 before signing a first-team contract with the club a year later, the Edmonton, AB product made 27 appearances and played 1,731 minutes for the Eddies before signing a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer (MLS). The 20-year-old was drafted in the second round by the Montreal Impact on January 13 in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
Shome played 53 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Canadian Championship and made his MLS debut as a substitute for Patrice Bernier in the Canadian international’s final match before retirement on this past October.
