Edmonton, AB (July 11, 2022) – FC Edmonton has confirmed they have acquired forward Mamadou Kane on loan from the Canadian Premier League’s York United FC, today.
The 18-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions, 11 in the Canadian Premier League In total, he’s accumulated 291 minutes of CPL action and featured twice in the Canadian Championship too. In the semi-final clash with Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place last month, it was Kane who provided a terrific assist for Isaiah Johnston in the club’s 2-1 defeat.
In a corresponding move, Eddies forward Julian Ulbricht was recalled by York United FC and returned to his former club Phonix Lubeck in Germany.
“We’re excited to add Mamadou to our young squad,” said FC Edmonton head coach Alan Koch.
“He is hungry and motivated to excel. He will come in and compete for playing time immediately with all our exciting attacking players.”
Ulbricht leaves the Eddies, having scored one goal in eight appearances. The 23-year-old scored his lone goal on a penalty kick in a 3-1 loss to the HFX Wanderers FC on Apr.30.
“We wish Julian well in his next steps. Returning to Germany will hopefully provide him with the kick start he is looking for in his career,” said Koch.
“A return closer to his wife is something we know he was looking for and we wish him all the best in the upcoming German season.”
